Young Carers FAQs

We have put together a list of the questions we get asked the most. You can find answers to questions about our general service and registration, activities and other topics.

​​​​General & Registration Queries 

 

  • Who is eligible for support from Carers’ Hub?

A young carer is anyone aged 5 to 21 who helps look after a family member or friend, who has an illness or condition. This might be a physical illness; mental illness; learning disability; or some form of addiction.
 
A young carer might care in all sorts of ways, be it through personal care, help around the home, or by providing emotional support.

 

If you live or care for somebody outside of Lambeth, you can visit the Carers Trust website to find your local service.

  • How can I register with the service?

You can register with Lambeth Young Carers via our online registration form. You can also get in touch via email or by phone if you need additional support.

  • I have registered with the service via the form, when should I expect to hear back?

Our wait times can vary depending on the volume of applications. At the moment the wait time for our Young Carers Service is 1 to 2 weeks.

  • How do professionals refer people to Carers’ Hub?

You can refer young carers by helping them to fill out the online registration form. You can also get in touch with us for a downloadable document that you can fill out and return to us.

  • I have registered with Carers’ Hub, why am I not receiving the monthly email bulletins?

Sometimes our monthly emails can end up in your spam folder. Please check to see if they have been misdirected, and relabel them as ‘not spam’. From this point onwards, you should receive the emails as expected.

If you are still not receiving the monthly email bulletins, you may not be signed up to our mailing list, or we may have the wrong email. Please email Youngcarers@carershub.org.uk to make us aware of the situation, and a member of our team will look into it.

  • Does Carers’ Hub provide Young Carers Assessments?

Carers Hub does not carry out carers assessments in Lambeth. This service is provided by the Lambeth Integrated Referral Hub, contact them  on helpandprotection@lambeth.gov.uk, or call 020 7926 5555.

​​​​Young Carers Activities ​

  • How do I sign a young carer up for activities?

Young Carers who are registered with our service are able to sign up for activities. This can be done via the booking form link in email bulletins, via phone or by emailing youngcarers@carershub.org.uk.

  • Why hasn't my child received a confirmed place on an activity?

Because our activities and trips have strictly limited spaces, we unfortunately cannot accommodate every single young carer on every trip. We always try our best to prioritise your child's top choices.


We will actively reach out via email and text message to confirm if your child has secured a spot. If you do not receive a confirmation message for a specific trip, it means the group is full and your child is on our waitlist. If another young person cancels, we will immediately contact waitlisted families in order.

 

  • What should I do if my child can no longer attend a session?

If your child is running late or can no longer attend, please let us know as soon as possible.  We always have a waitlist for activities, so if your child cannot attend, another young person can.

Please note: Due to high demand, repeated unexcused absences without letting us know in advance will unfortunately result in your child losing the ability to book future events. 

​

  • Can parents join the activity?

Due to standard safeguarding regulations, parents and guardians cannot join children in our activities. Take this time to enjoy a well-deserved break!

  • Can children with SEND participate?

Absolutely. We happily welcome and support children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), provided they can safely participate within a group environment without requiring dedicated 1-1 support.

  • What support do you offer care leavers?

Carers’ Hub is a charity dedicated entirely to supporting unpaid carers. We do not provide services specifically designed for care leavers.

  • Which schools work with Carers’ Hub Lambeth?

We work closely with a wide network of local schools across the borough to help identify and support young carers. We are always happy to hear from other schools in the area. Our current partner schools include:
