General
General & Registration Queries
-
Who is eligible for support from Carers’ Hub?
-
If you look after a family member, friend, partner or neighbour and are not paid to do it,then you are an unpaid carer. And if either you or they live in Lambeth, then we are here to support you.
-
Adult Carers: We support adult carers aged 18+ if either you or the person you care for lives in the London Borough of Lambeth.
-
Young Carers: We support young carers aged 5 to 21 who help look after someone with a physical or mental illness, learning disability, or addiction.
-

-
How do I register with the service, or refer someone else?
-
You can register with Carers Hub via our online registration form. You can also get in touch via email or by phone if you need additional support.
-
-
I have registered with the service via the form, when should I expect to hear back?
-
Our wait times can vary depending on the volume of applications. At the moment wait times for our Adult Carers Service are 6 to 8 weeks.
-
-
How do professionals refer people to Carers’ Hub?
-
You can refer Carers by helping them to fill out the online registration form. You can also get in touch with us for a downloadable document that you can fill out and return to us.
-
-
Why am I not receiving the monthly email bulletins?
-
Sometimes our monthly emails can end up in your spam folder. Please check to see if they have been misdirected, and relabel them as ‘not spam’. From this point onwards, you should receive the emails as expected.
-
If you are still not receiving them, you may not be fully signed up to our mailing list, or we may have an incorrect email address. Please email connect@carershub.org.uk or youngcarers@carershub.org.uk to make us aware of the situation, and a member of our team will look into it.

Financial Support & Benefits
-
Can Carers' Hub help me with benefits advice and grant applications?
-
Yes! We provide dedicated benefits advice to registered carers in Lambeth to help you confidently navigate the welfare system and claim what you are entitled to. We can also use our 1-1 appointments to help you research and apply for external, one-off financial grants for necessities like equipment, energy bills, food, and furniture.
-
While you wait for an appointment, you can also explore the Turn2Us Benefits Calculator and PIP Helper links on our website to see what support might be open to you.
-
-
Do you provide direct grants or cost-of-living support?
-
As a small, independent charity, we do not have the funding to directly distribute financial grants or ongoing cash aid to our service users. However, we can support you in the following ways:
-
External Referrals: We can refer you to local council schemes and issue food bank vouchers.
-
Carers Fund Grants: We can write supporting statements for eligible individuals applying for a Carers Trust grant via the Carers Trust.
-
Emergency Vouchers: Our team occasionally has access to cost-of-living vouchers for absolute necessities (like winter coats, shoes, food, and toiletries). These are distributed strictly at the discretion of the supporting team member during your casework and are not available upon request.
-
-
-
Can Carers’ Hub help me navigate direct payments?
-
Direct payments are a fixed sum of money provided by the council directly to eligible individuals instead of arranging traditional services for them. Carers’ Hub cannot offer direct advice on Direct Payments. However, we work closely with Blue Sky Brokers, who are experts in navigating Direct Payments and employment law.

Appointments & External Services
-
Can I bring the person I care for to my 1-1 meeting?
-
To get the most out of your session, we strongly recommend that 1-1 appointments remain strictly between the carers and our team member. These meetings are a safe space where we often discuss sensitive topics, including the emotional and negative impacts that full-time caring can bring.
-
We understand that sometimes you are unable to leave the person you care for alone, or find somebody else to watch over them. That is why we offer flexible meeting options: we can conduct 1-1 meetings in the office, over the phone, via video call, and through home visits.
-
-
Do you offer Carer’s Assessments, advocacy services, or hire care workers?
-
No. Carers' Hub is an independent charity providing community support, advice, and activities for unpaid carers. We do not provide the following direct services, but we work with partners who do:
-
Carer’s Assessments: These are legally handled exclusively by Lambeth Council’s Adult Social Care team.
-
Advocacy Services: Professional independent advocacy is provided by our partners at VoiceAbility Lambeth.
-
Hiring Care Staff: We do not employ care workers. If you need support recruiting or training an independent care worker, please contact Blue Sky Brokers.
